Chapter 17
Declan
"I'm not going to disrespect you by beating around the bush, Ledger. As Alpha of two packs, and King of all werewolves, I have a
responsibility that goes beyond worrying about whether I hurt our Beta's mate's feelings. I don't know you from jack, hell, no
offense, but you don't even know yourself at the moment. With all that being said, though, I do want to help you get your memory
back, and I do want you to be able to join your mates back at the pack house where you belong."
"Alpha Declan..."
I hold my hand up, stopping him from saying anything just yet, "I only have one question for you, and then you have the floor." I
wait until he nods and then I proceed, "Do you think that there is a possibility that when you get your memory back, that you will
turn on us and bring the Shikari here?"
Ledger blows out a long breath and runs his hand down his face as he leans back in the chair, "I have to be completely honest
with you, I've thought about that same question since Spencer and Cici brought me back to this house. I can't tell you what
you're hoping to hear because, well, I just can't know what it is that I will remember. Spending this time with both my mates,
though, I can. already feel the bond with them. It may not be strong enough yet because we haven't marked each other, but
there is still one there."
I stare at the male, taking in everything that he is saying. I don't feel as though he's only stringing me along, but again, I don't
know the guy either. I wish I could be certain; I want our Beta's back where they belong, at the pack house.
Ledger continues, "I would like to think that when the time comes, I will choose my mates over the hunters. I don't understand
how a father can hunt and destroy werewolves when his own son is one. That is something that I need to take into consideration
as well."

"You are a witch too, you know. Have you had any kind of feeling come over you or anything, making you want to use your
magic?" That is another thing that concerns me, his magic.
"No, I haven't but a lot has gone on today, so I haven't really paid much attention."
"So, I've noticed." I chuckle.
He gives me a questioning look.

I point to my nose, "Sense of smell is strong. This house reeks of sex." I laugh when I see him get a bit embarrassed, "Hey,
wolves are very sexual beings and there is nothing to be ashamed of. You will get used to it. Who knows, if you're going to be a
permanent fixture around here, you may be able to pick up some of your natural wolf senses, but I don't know much about
wolves who can'
t shift."
"Yeah, me neither," he chuckles, and I join in, "I've got to say, though, everything that I've been learning from Spencer and Cici,
really interests me."
"Are you going to let them mark you?" I just come straight out and ask him.
"I thought Cici was going to do it today; I even turned my head for her, but she decided against it. I asked her why and she said
she wanted to wait until I know who I am first."
I nod, "That makes sense, but I would think that it should be left up to you to decide."
"Yeah, I don't mind waiting. I kind of want to find out how I can mark them back when we do complete the claiming or whatever it
is that it's called." He chuckles.
"Claiming, marking, it's pretty much the same." I'm feeling much. better after talking with Ledger. He does seem like a down-to-
earth male...as of right now anyway, "Well, just so you know, you are welcome to move into the Beta suite with them, but please
don't get defensive if we keep tabs on you for the time being. We do have children to consider, but I think everything will turn out
fine." I give him a friendly smile, hoping he realizes that this is an olive branch that I'm holding out for him.
"Thank you, Alpha, and with all due respect, I think I would like to stay here, just for a few more days. I would just like to adjust a

little bit more before moving into the pack house."
"I'm good with that," I stand up and hold out my hand for him to shake, "Thank you for hearing me out, Ledger, and I want you to
know that Quinn and I want to help you remember as well, so if you need anything, please, let us know."
"Thank you, Alpha."
I leave shortly after my little chat with Ledger and head back home, only I don't make it too far before I'm being called out to the
south border by patrol. Duke can use a good stretching anyway, so I let him shift and soon enough our paws are flying over the
forest floor towards the border. It feels good to let my wolf out, it's seems like ages, and I know I need to be better at letting him
stretch his legs, the same as Tala. Maybe we should go for that run that Quinn's been wanting to go on..

When I meet up with the patrol at the south border, I'm stunned at what I find. There, on the ground, are two regular wolves, lying
dead with a note pinned to one of them. Once I examine the whole scene and ask security to check the infrared camera footage
to make sure the hunters aren't lying in wait for us to step away from our border, I shift and go to retrieve the note before going
back to the safety of the woods.
My eyes scan the words written in messy penmanship and then I curse. I read it once more to make sure I'm reading it all
correctly.
'Release our friend or else next you will find one of your own kind. lying here with a note...'
"Bury these wolves please and make sure you stay vigilant while on patrol. I don't want these fuckers making good on their word.
I will contact the surrounding packs and make them aware of the danger as well."
"Yes Alpha."
Sticking the note between my teeth, I shift back to Duke and take off in the direction to which I came. I think the Betas should be
warned about this first and foremost. Regardless of what the note says, I will not be handing Ledger over. Their friend, my ass!
He wouldn't have amnesia or even be here if it wasn't for them bashing his head in!
I slow to a stop just as I get to where I shifted in the first place and put my discarded clothes back on. Making my way back over
to the house where I just came from, I knock on the door for a second time.
Once again, Spencer answers the door. "Alpha? Did you forget something?"
"No," I hold the blood-crusted note out to him, "but we do have a slight problem."
Please let me know what your thoughts are so far. Haven't had many comments lately and I would like to know that you are still
enjoying the story... =)
