His throat bobbed as he yanked the comforter over her. Sophia immediately flung it off, “Ugh, it’s boiling in here!” Jason pulled the comforter back over her, pinning it down so she couldn't move. Sweat beaded on his own forehead. Wasn't it supposed to be chills when someone had a fever? Why was she always the exception? He found her clothes and stuffed them under the covers, fumbling to dress her. Even if he called for a maid, she had to be clothed first. What would people think if they saw her undressed in his room? In his fluster, and not having much experience with bras, it took him a while to get it on her - naturally brushing against places he shouldn't.

He steeled himself, pretending she was still the little girl who had just arrived at the Quintin household. By the the got her thin sweater on, his back was drenched with sweat. Taking a deep breath, Jason calmed himself a bit and turned to the desk to find sfever reducer. He'd always taken care of her when she was sick as a child, so he knew exactly what medicine she needed. Without any fuss, Jason cradled her in his arms, popped the medicine into her mouth, and carefully fed her water. Sophia cooperated, swallowing the medicine with her eyes closed. Afterwards, she snuggled into his chest, clinging tightly to his waist, burrowing into his embrace. Jason set down the water glass and gently caressed her burning cheek, murmuring, “Thinking I'm Robin, huh?” “Robin, | feel awful,” Sophia murmured back, following his lead. A wave of deep pain flickered through Jason's somber eyes as he looked down at the girl. His trembling hand, warmed by her fever, still felt cold as ice. Eventually, Sophia broke into a sweat, her fever breaking. Jason laid her back down on the bed, tucking her in before he watched her fall into a deep sleep. Only then did he change his own clothes and stepped out of the room. The maid saw him and asked, “How is Miss Sophia?” “She just took her medicine and the fever’'s cdown. Make her something light for dinner,” Jason instructed. “Yes, sir,” the maid replied respectfully. Old Mr. Jarvis and Old Mr. Quintin were in the gazebo, playing chess. They were enjoying chess amidst the falling snow, with a stove warming the space and water boiling for coffee, mingling with the crisp winter air - it was their idea of a delightful winter pastime! Jason approached and greeted both elderly men. Old Mr. Jarvis chuckled, “You've been busy these past few days, and after a day’s travel, you should rest. No need for formalities.” Jason didn’t feel tired anymore. “No trouble at all; I'll sit with you for a while!” Jason took a seat on a stool. Old Mr. Quintin said, “Sophia’s caught a cold again. The heater in her room is broken, so | had her sleep in your room. Did you see Books Chapters Are Daily Updated Join & Stay Updated for All Books Updates...

x] her?” Jason's gaze dropped instinctively as he replied softly, “I did. She had a fever, but I've given her smedicine.” “She was always sickly as a child and it seems nothing's changed. | wonder if that Robin has the patience to take care of her,” Old Mr. Quintin sighed. After moving his chess piece, Old Mr. Jarvis looked up at Old Mr. Quintin, “Do you know much about this Robin? Sophia grew up under your care. You're responsible for her, especially when it comes to marriage. Make sure you vet him properly for her parents.” Catching the undertone in his words, Old Mr. Quintin asked, “What, you don’t approve of Robin?” Old Mr. Jarvis simply shook his head, “Hard to say.” Old Mr. Quintin gave a meaningful look but didn’t press further, turning his attention back to Jason, “Keep an eye on Robin for Sophia.” Jason’s eyes darkened as he spoke quietly, “Sophia's head over heels for him. How am | supposed to keep an eye on Robin?” Old Mr. Quintin paused, then said, “Then I'll ask Estelle to watch over him.” “Have Estelle keep an eye?” Old Mr. Jarvis scoffed, “You might as well leave Sophia and her boyfriend be.” Old Mr. Quintin threw his head back and laughed heartily.
